Upon activation, the center of the metal dome depresses, establishing a connection with the PCB’s traces, thereby forming a circuit. This mechanism ensures smooth functionality of the membrane keypad and guarantees reliable operation when electrical current flows through.
Some silicone keypads integrate arrays of metal domes for actuation and electrical functionality. These arrays feature metal domes adhered to a PET sheet with adhesive backing, offering a distinct actuation feel. Metal domes are preferred for their shorter stroke and extended lifespan compared to traditional silicone keypads utilizing carbon pills or conductive printing techniques.
